Midpoint

The midpoint is the average of the coordinates.

Jump to section:

M = (x₁ + x₂2, y₁ + y₂2)

What to Remember

In the plane

M = (x₁ + x₂2, y₁ + y₂2)

In space

Average z the same way: z₁ + z₂2

Odd sums

If a sum is odd, the coordinate is a fraction with denominator 2.

Order

Adding in either order gives the same midpoint.
